Pessoa Prize 2014 for Henrique Leitão

Henrique Leitão, a member of the University Centre for the History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT - University of Lisbon) has won the "Pessoa Prize 2014", for his contributions to the History of Science in Portugal. This is the highest artistic, scientific and literary prize in Portugal and has been awarded before to such famous Portuguese people as Maria João Pires (the pianist) and António Damásio (the neuroscientist).

In the text of the award three works are referred to: the exhibition «360º Science Discovered» (Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, 2013), of which he was the curator and that included also a map section; the modern edition of the works of Pedro Nunes (1502-1578), which he coordinated; and the contribution to the research on the construction of the Mercator projection, published in two Imago Mundi articles:
