The Swedish map committee has once again discussed some matters concerning the ISSOM as followed:

1. It's our opinion that the graphic symbol for impassable wall (521.1), not is acceptable on behalf of the risk of confusion with 504.0 in ISOM 2000.
In the sprint event during O-Ringen this year in Goteborg just such a confusion occurred, and it had major influence on the competition, because the winner of the men's elite class run through a settlement thinking he would be allowed to run on a small road through the area, while it was marked a wall on the map.
Even more serious is the difficult for youngsters who are in a learning process. They have to split the information, that sometimes a thick black line is a road and the next time perhaps they are practising on a map drawn after ISSOM, and suddenly the same sign is a wall!
It is our strong overall opinion that it is very unfortunately to have the same graphic symbol for different features in the two different map standards.
Therefore we have the following suggestions how to solve this problem:
a. Use the same symbol for all impassable walls as in ISOM 2000, both in urban and non urban areas, and to be logical, we think it's best to also use the ISOM symbol for passable walls as well.
b. If a. isn't possible we suggest you to find another CMYK colour mix for this symbols. We think it's time to leave the limitation of the PMS printing system, all sprint maps can be printed with CMYK technique.

2. The brown filling in roads etc. is now defined to 15-30% brown. We think that this is to light, especially with digital printing the colour will sometimes not occur at all, or it will be hard to discover. It is our opinion that the filling shall easily be seen, therefore we advise you to set the filling to at least 30%
Connected to this filling problem is the with of the contour line. A line under 0,10mm will often be almost invisible, especially with digital printing, so our suggestion is that contour lines in urban areas are changed to 0,10mm and the lines in not urban areas changes to 0,13mm.
