Colours

Colours in the 4 colour maps
Colours in the 4 colour maps are not according to rules.
All colours, except green, appear too dark in comparison with rules.
However, these maps were not used in the official competitions.

Colours in the 5 colour maps
Brown appears to be more light as compared with PMS 471
Green is quite good, in the map of the final the colour is slightly stronger.
Blue is too dark, but its presence is insignificant.
Yellow is not according to rules. The full colour has the same appearance as the 50% PMS 136. As a consequence, small 50% yellow areas on white areas or small white areas in yellow areas are barely distinguishable.

Size of symbols

In order to measure the size of symbols, small part of the maps were enlarged by 400% and then by 250% in order to obtain a 10 to 1 relation. Obviously the contour of the symbols becomes somewhat fade, especially for the 4 colour maps, but the results are nevertheless significant, even though a plus or minus 10% uncertainty should be considered (dimensions are given in centimetres, measures are taken according to ISOM 2000).

4 colour maps:
small knoll 0.55
pit 0.8
index contour 0.25
contour 0.15
unpaved road/track 0.40/0.45
footpath 0.35
small footpath 0.22
vegetation boundary 0.25, distance between centre of spots 0.6
small erosion gully 0.25, distance between centre of spots 0.7

5 colour maps (competition maps):
small knoll 0.5
elongated knoll 0.9
small depression 1.1
pit 0.8
boulder 0.5
index contour 0.22/0.25
contour 0.1
unpaved road/track 0.38
footpath 0.28
small footpath 0.2
green cross 1.2
black cross 1.1
vegetation boundary 0.22, distance between centre of spots 0.7
small erosion gully 0.22, distance between centre of spots 0.6/0.7

In the competition maps it may be seen that, considering an uncertainty of 10%, the dimensions are approximately the same as for 1:15000 maps, except:
a. small depressions, green and black crosses that are close to the 1:15000 size multiplied by 1.5
b. index contours, which seem to be slightly smaller than the 1:15000 size and
c. contour lines, definitively smaller than the 1:15000 size.

Drawing
The drawing is accurate. Brown symbols almost never touch each other, as it should be. Few more slope lines would have been helpful in some complex area.
