In addition to the standard 1:100.000 scale land cover data base derived for the entire country, more detailed (1:50.000), experimental maps are also be produced for about 15% of Hungary, using merged Landsat TM and SPOT PAN satellite imagery. Selected regions for this exercise were: Kiskunság and Bükk-Nyírség. In this project the size of minimum mapping unit is 4 hectare and linear elements are mapped if width exceed 50 meter. Enhanced thematic detail is provided by the experimental nomenclature which has been developed by a group of international experts for Central and Eastern Europe as refinement of the standard European nomenclature.
