2. Biography of the Bosatlas by Ferjan Ormeling
This new publication is an exciting 'biography' of the famous Dutch secondary school atlas. It's published in the same format as the atlas itself and charts the development of its educational cartography as well as changing classroom use of the atlas maps. The book is exceptionally well illustrated with maps and photographs. This is a landmark publication in the history of educational cartography. Ferjan will be giving a paper based on this work in Brisbane.

3. New book on GIS in Spanish
Anita Palmer (of GISetc: Educational Technology Consultants: www.gisetc.com) writes about a new book from Argentina. It is GIS: Sistemas de Información Geográfica, Propuestas Didácticas by Rosa Kaufman. Anita wrote the Preface for the book and reviewed it prior to publication. The book includes and uses the free tool, ArcExplorer Java Edition for Education (AEJEE software by ESRI). It includes an introduction to GIS as well as several global projects, a project on Argentina, and one on Buenos Aires.

Learning and Teaching with Maps describes how children make meaning with maps, including large scale plans, topographic and thematic maps, globes and maps of the world. Using research evidence from psychology, cartography, geography and education it explains how children understand scale, coordinates, symbols, contours and place names and identifies common learning difficulties. New perspectives are provided on children's understanding of small scale and atlas maps as well as recent evidence for young people's use of Geographical Information Systems. 6. 10th anniversary of our commission
Jesus Reyes has edited a representative collection of papers commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Cartography and Children Commission. The papers have been collated onto a CD and sent to authors and members of the ICA executive as a way of promoting and publicising our work. 7. ICA International Cartographic Conference and General Assembly, Moscow, 2007
