Cyprus on the Crossroads of Travelers and Map-makers from the 15th to 20th Century

A conference devoted to "Cyprus on the Crossroads of Travelers and Map-makers from the 15th to 20th Century"  will be held in the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens (Greece) on 18-20 October 2012. It is the first of a series of biennial international conferences on the Greek World in Travel Accounts and Maps, organized by the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation in collaboration with the University of the Aegean, and the History and Archaeology Department of the University of Cyprus.

The conference will be structured in  three thematic sections:

  • The Images of Cyprus in Early Modern Times: Threads of Tradition.
  • Changing Images and Points of Correspondence: Ottoman Domination and Western Penetration.
  • Contrasts and Challenges: Empire, Colonialism and Nation.

It will also include a special digital presentation entitled:

  • A Cartographical and Travellers’ Collection in the Digital Age.
